Her blev der diskuteret, hvad de to styrker har til fælles, hvor de adskiller sig med unikke strukturer, og hvor de i stigende grad efterligner hinanden. Gennem et tværnationalt, akademisk perspektiv undersøgte denne konference deres respektive styrker, strategier og udfordringer – og tilbød derfor en unik mulighed for at gå ud over de traditionelle geopolitiske fortællinger og fremme en dialog baseret på fakta og forskning.
Anerkendte internationale forskere, professor You Ji fra Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, samt vicedirektør Oscar Almen og senioranalytiker Per Olsson fra FOI – det svenske forsvarsanalyseinstitut, gav deres vurderinger af henholdsvis det amerikanske og det kinesiske militær. Derudover præsenterede den internationale forsker Jingdong Yuan, direktør ved SIPRI, forskellige vurderinger af de to landes forsvarsbudgetter. Derudover bidrog major Adam Buschard, Cameron Hunter, Camilla Nørup Sørensen og Professor Mikkel Vedby Rasmussen med værdifulde refleksioner og kommentarer. Konferencen blev åbnet af institutleder Signe Pihl-Thingvad.
Konferencen blev efterfulgt af en reception, hvor man fejrede Bertel Heurlin – 90 års Fødselsdag (stadig meget ungdommelig) og med 70 år i den akademiske verden – en præstation, der sjældent ses. Vi udtrykte vores taknemmelighed for Bertels utrættelige engagement i forskningen, men endnu vigtigere: for hans varme kollegialitet og venskab.

One of Mexico’s most meaningful traditions:Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with participation of The Ambassador of Mexico in Denmark.
(Invitation Text) This year, we are delighted to welcome back Mexican artist Ana Quiroz, who will present the altar installation Whisper of Hummingbirds, A New Life. This work invites us to reflect on memory, life, and continuity, while admiring handcrafted papier-mâché transformed into delicate, fluttering hummingbirds.
This contemporary altar will be dedicated to Bodil Christensen and Helga Larsen, Danish sisters whose story will be shared by Jesper Nielsen, Mesoamerican specialist, in his talk:
“Remembering Helga and Bodil: How Two Danish Sisters Became Ethnographers in Mexico in the 1930s”, a journey into the history of two Danish women who found in Mexico a path of cultural discovery.

H.M. King Chulalongkorn was the King of Thailand, formerly known as Siam, where his reign from 1868 – 1910 was characterized by the modernization of Siam. During his reign, significant developments related to governmental and social reforms took place, such as the establishment of transportation systems, public utilities as well as banking and commercial systems in line with Western models.For over 400 years, the friendship between Thailand and Denmark has developed, but it was under the reign of H.M. King Chulalongkorn that the relationship has flourished at many levels and expanded to all dimensions of exchanges between the two countries and peoples.
